A Black photographer added himself to places where history didn't want him
·1 min
In a recent art project called ‘Being There,’ a collaboration between two photographers highlights the exclusion of Black people in 1950s and 1960s America. The project involves inserting one of the photographers into old family photos where he appears in places where Black people were often unwelcome. The photos, purchased on eBay, capture moments of both wealth and everyday life, emphasizing the privilege associated with being photographed during that time. The project aims to provoke viewers to consider how they exclude those who are different from themselves. The photographers intentionally left some aspects of the project ambiguous, such as the character’s identity and acceptance in each photo.
