The European Union has initiated proceedings against ByteDance’s TikTok and warned of potential suspension of its TikTok Lite rewards program. The program allows users to earn points for engaging with the app. The EU’s executive arm, the European Commission, has given TikTok a 24-hour deadline to provide a risk assessment report for TikTok Lite. Failure to comply may result in fines. The Commission emphasized that online platforms have a responsibility to address potential risks faced by users and urged TikTok to submit an assessment and provide more information on user protection.
