Florida’s Republican Governor has signed a bill into law that prohibits children under the age of 14 from having their own social media accounts. However, 14 and 15-year-olds will be allowed to create accounts with parental consent. The legislation also imposes restrictions on pornographic websites, requiring age verification for visitors. The law will take effect on January 1, 2025. Similar laws have been passed in other states, and legal challenges are expected. The Governor had previously vetoed the bill but changed his stance to prioritize parental involvement in social media use.
