Marseille closing in on deal to sign Hojbjerg

Marseille have agreed to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur. The French club will pay €20 million to secure the Denmark international. Hojbjerg is set to leave the Premier League after eight seasons. He joined Spurs from Southampton in 2020, following a move from Bayern Munich. Hojbjerg had one year left on his Spurs contract. Atletico Madrid also showed interest in him. Tottenham has depth in central midfield with other players preferred by head coach Ange Postecoglou. Hojbjerg’s game time has been limited recently, with most appearances as a substitute. Spurs will face Leicester City and Everton in their opening Premier League fixtures in August.

Hojbjerg, who has spent eight seasons in the Premier League, will be leaving Spurs after just one year with the club. Tottenham were open to his departure if the right offer came along, and Atletico Madrid also showed interest. Hojbjerg’s playing time has been limited recently, with other midfield options preferred by coach Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham will begin their season against Leicester City and Everton in August.
