CNN — TikTok Faces Congressional Threat in Aid Package

House Republicans have added a bill to a foreign aid package that could potentially lead to a nationwide ban on TikTok. The bill, which focuses on helping Israel and Ukraine, aims to force the Senate to quickly vote on the measure. The proposed bill includes a nine-month timeframe for TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app. If the deadline is missed, TikTok would be banned from US app stores. The revised legislation also allows the president to extend the deadline by 90 days if there is progress towards a sale. Congress has expressed concerns about TikTok’s data security due to its links with China. TikTok has denied these claims and has taken steps to protect users’ data.
